Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green attends U.S. flag football national team trials

Darrell Green, a Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback who played his entire 20-year NFL career with the Washington Redskins from 1983 to 2002, is participating in trials for the U.S. men's flag football national team in Chula Vista, California.[1][2]

Green, 64, qualified for the trials through a digital combine and will compete among about 100 athletes seeking spots on the national team staff's radar.[2] USA Football senior director of high performance and national teams Callie Brownson noted Green's impressive testing results despite his age.[2]

The trials aim to identify candidates for an invitation to training camp next month and potential roster spots on the 2026 U.S. squad, which will compete at the IFAF Flag World Championships in Germany.[2][3]

Flag football is set to debut as an Olympic sport at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.[4] The U.S. men's team has dominated the world championships, winning six of the last seven titles since 2010.[2]

Green was selected by the Redskins in the first round, 28th overall, of the 1983 NFL draft out of Texas A&M-Kingsville. Over his career, he recorded 54 interceptions, including six returned for touchdowns, and 1,202 tackles. He won Super Bowls XXII and XXVI, earned seven Pro Bowl selections and one first-team All-Pro honor in 1991, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.[1][5]

"I’m going to give it my best and I’ll walk away with my head up, either way," Green said.[2]
