Rosenqvist's car goes airborne in Lap 29 crash at Indy road course
Christian Lundgaard won the Sonsio Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on Saturday, his first IndyCar victory since 2023 in a race marked by multiple crashes. Felix Rosenqvist, starting third in the No. 60 car, went airborne on Lap 29 entering Turn 13 after contact with Pato O'Ward. Rosenqvist attempted to continue but retired with heavy damage, finishing 23rd.
The 90-lap race saw early chaos with drivers bumping on the frontstretch before the green flag and spinning into Turn 1, involving Rosenqvist among others. Marcus Ericsson, Christian Rasmussen and Alexander Rossi failed to finish, while Romain Grosjean completed the distance one lap down. Six lead changes occurred among four drivers, including Lundgaard's decisive pass of David Malukas with 18 laps remaining.
Twelve caution laps punctuated the event on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.
The Sonsio Grand Prix serves as the final tune-up before the Indianapolis 500 later this month.
