SmackDown ends with Rhodes attacking Gunther after Keys match

SmackDown opened with a contract signing for an Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and Gunther at Clash in Italy. Rhodes set up the ring table and chairs himself after Paul Heyman arranged the bout. Gunther accused Rhodes of turning the segment into a personal spotlight and demanded he act professionally.

Rhodes countered that Gunther had already secured the advantage through Heyman and challenged him to sign the contract in the ring. Royce Keys entered the segment and offered to sign the document when Gunther hesitated, prompting Gunther to take the pen away.

General manager Nick Aldis ruled that Gunther had forfeited an automatic title opportunity and scheduled a match between Gunther and Keys for the main event. Solo Sikoa accompanied Keys to ringside and attempted to influence him during the contest.

Gunther defeated Keys after a powerbomb following a referee distraction created when Keys rejected a chair offered by Sikoa. Rhodes then attacked Gunther from behind as Gunther celebrated the victory. Carmelo Hayes defeated Ricky Saints earlier in the night by roll-up after using the ropes for leverage.
