The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, according to reports.
Dalton, born October 29, 1987, spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Carolina, primarily backing up Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.[1][2] In 2024, he started five games, compiling a 1-4 record before Young's return.[1]
Prior to Carolina, Dalton started for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019, posting a regular-season record of 70-62-2 and guiding the team to four consecutive playoff berths from 2011 to 2014, though failing to win a postseason game (0-4).[1]
Following his trade to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2020 season, Dalton started 11 games with a 4-7 record.[1] He then joined the Chicago Bears in 2021 for two starts (1-1 record)[1] and the New Orleans Saints in 2022 for four starts (2-2 record).[1]
The acquisition adds experienced depth behind starting quarterback Jalen Hurts at the position. Tanner McKee served as Hurts' primary backup during the 2023 season and performed well in 2024 preseason games.[3]
Hurts led the Eagles to an 11-6 record in 2023 before a wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[4]
